Enjoyed your article Trev and John. Just to enlighten you re the name Ranon. I led the first trip down the canyon in early 1962, with Dave Lambert, as members of the Kameruka Bushwalking Club.
I named the canyon, taking the name of the Sun God Ra and adding non to it ie NO SUN!
How names can confuse. Sorry, seemed perfectly clever and logical at the time.
It was from this trip, when we got a glimpse at the bottom end of Claustral (incidentally from the meaning narrow/confined), that I led the first trip down that canyon, with a Kameruka party, later that year--Nov., 1962. Ancient history almost.
Cheers,
Barry
