It's been 30 years since I last sat on a push bike as a teenager and suddenly had an urge to get me a mountain bike. Bought myself a sweet EMC2 Element. After giving the Blayney Rd tracks a blast, (and surviving unscathed except for 3 major adrenaline rushes), I was ready to go bush.

So I decided to escape Bathurst and the racing crowds for the weekend and spent a peaceful night camping beside the Wolgan. Up early this morning and set off downstream along the fire trail. A few hilly sections as I passed the old ruins, a very nasty hill at Devil's Pinch which I walked up (and down), then relatively flat going until the steep descent to the Rocky Creek junction.  The trail continues (according to the Mt Morgan map) another few k's, but I turned back here after lunching in a lovely little camping spot at the junction.

Returning had considerably more uphills than the way in, but a very pleasant ride. I lost count of how many enormous goannas I saw, and even encountered a black snake sunning himself in the middle of the track as I rounded a bend hurtling downhill. Shimano brakes - yay! Skidded to a halt 2 metres from Mr Blake who just looked at me and slithered away quietly.

Trip from car to car took me 4.5 hours. Nice day out.
