hey guys, was just wondering if anyone knew of any good indoor rock climbing places around Sydney, preferably around eastern suburbs/city.

Obviously my long term goal is to become proficient enough to do some proper outdoor climbing, but since im  a noob, and based in the middle of the city, it would probably help if i learened some basic skills first in a safe and convenient indoor location. I know theres a place in St Peters which is pretty good, but anyone know of any others?

also anyone know any of these places which have the facilities to practice some abseilling techniques, such as self rescues etc?

cheers

St Peters is the best - Or St Leonards, depending on who you ask.

St Leonards = Climb Fit
St Peters = Sydney Indoor Climbing Gym

Down south there is the Rocknasium at Caringbah - this is pretty small and last time I was there the equipment seemed to be getting pretty old. Mostly used by school kids I guess.

Sydney University has The Ledge in the womens gym. Another small gym, but it is reasonable enough.

Mountain Designs or Mountain Equipment (always get them mixed up) on Kent street used to have their own indoor climbing gym, but they seem to have shut it down. It is full of tents now.

And I don't know of anywhere which allow you to do abseiling - this is normally something I do with friends or a club/group at an easy to access convenient venue. Realistically, you can practice most self belay and self rescue techniques on a steep hill with a tree at the top.
