Knocked off David Crevasse yesterday.  Good weather, on the cool and blustery side  Smiley

It's not a bad canyon, has a few spectacular longish abseils. A few more abseils than Rick describes in his book, and we didn't encounter one that really tested the length of the 50m rope.

Fair walk in, long walk out. We chose Pierces Pass and I don't think we got there until about 5:30pm Shocked.  The descent to the Grose is a bit tricky - there's been a fairly recent rockfall outside the crevasse, we climbed down beside that and kept to the creek most of the way down. There was never any clear and easy way across to the right to a nice looking ridge, the scrub is way too thick.

Back late last night from the Six Foot Track with two work colleagues.  I last did it as a youngie, maybe 7 or 8 years old...  far enough back I can only remember wading across the Coxs and climbing those steep hills up on to Black Range.  Good weather mostly, a little misty rain yesterday for a few hours but otherwise cool & sunny.

A little disappointing that so much of the walk is boring fire trail, and there were 4WD campers at the Coxs River...  Huh

Anyway, this Thursday night I'm off to Bungonia for caving and canyoning.  Anyone interested in joining our small group can contact me via PM or e-mail.  We plan to cave Thursday evening and Friday.  On Saturday and Sunday we knock of two canyons (including Fordham), camping overnight on the Shoalhaven.  (Some careful packing/hauling will be needed to keep some gear dry on the way in.)

It's taken me a good week or so to recover but what a successful trip at Bungonia!  Grin

Arrived late on the Thursday and got a fair way into B44 Grill Cave, then with a late start on Friday we spent a fair time in B4 and B5. To start with, abseiled into Devils Kitchen, then made our way back through B4, exploring the marvelous constrictions of Route 19.  Slightly disappointing not to get into more caves but sure to be back.

Canyoning on the Saturday & Sunday was brilliant.  See photos & video of Fordham Canyon here:

Did you encounter any foul air and get as far as the foul air warning near the end of Grill Cave?

Yes, but for the first time was able to go beyond Rock Slide Chamber (past the "caution boulders" sign) and down the Slippery Dips.  Began to notice the foul air towards Boulder Holder I think.

Think I might go and do Empress Canyon this Friday 20/11, as a prelude to a bit of exploration down Valley of the Waters Creek and up Jamisons Creek.

Also want to check out Roberts and Gladstone Passes and the links to Lindeman Pass. Might make it an overnighter to fit all that in  Cool

Bushwalk: The Castle and Monolith Valley
When: weekend 12/13 December 2009

Already have a small party together, and it's likely to get bigger!  Camping at the Yadboro River campground on the Friday night.  PM me quick if you're interested. Sorry I expect to have to limit numbers on this one.

Quite possibly a very warm weekend. Early start Saturday. Big climb, tremendous views Shocked

Cycling:  Kosciuszko National Park
When:  Monday 30/11/09 to Friday 4/12/09

Flex leave in the public service, when it accumulates, is a nice thing to have. Cool

Taking a week off work to go cycling [mountain biking] in Kosciusko National Park, probably the Jagungal Wilderness Area.  Desperately awaiting the delivery of my new panniers - hoping to depart on Monday, possibly Tuesday (but no later than that).

A brilliant bushwalk in the Budawangs a couple of weeks ago:

Some video will be uploaded in the next few days.

Certainly challenging and exhausting! Scenically, the most spectacular gorge country on the east coast I'd say. Also, blessed with 4 lovely & keen participants, and picture perfect weather  Cool

Canyoning: Kanangra or Bungleboori region
When: long weekend Friday 01/01/10 to 03/01/09

Join us for a camp and party New Years Eve before 3 long tough days canyoning!

The desired region is Kanangra and will likely involve Kanangra Main and an overnighter (eg. Carra Beanga).  This option depends on having a party of suitable size and experience.

The backup, easier option will be canyoning into the Bungleboori North and/or South Branch. Base camp to be set up out on Waratah Ridge.

Experienced, fit canyoners welcome. Overall - tough canyons, much walking, difficult terrain and some tricky navigation!  PM me asap if interested.
