Hi there, great idea!

I grew up in Parramatta and learned to climb at The Pitch, then spent just about every weekend between 1994 and 2000 in the Blue Mountains. Mt Boyce, Mt Victoria, Shipley - great times.

I'm now married, moved to Brisbane and my 2 1/2 yr old daughter has the climbing bug as well. She has her own harness and we're planning a trip to the indoor gym over xmas to see if she likes it.

I've scaled back from 3 jobs to 2, so I now have time to scan a backlog of almost 20 years of photos (including that Scott's Main Range between Mittagong and Katoomba - on bikes). I'll put a few up on here to accompany trip reports.

Looking forward to meeting everyone else and sharing some of the good times I've had so far...

Hey Justin!
Great to meet you! (I just sent you a message on facebook Wink)

Wow Scotts Main Range...Katoomba and Mittagong you say... Funny, my first hike that I ever did was walking from Katoomba to Mittagong - Yerranderie was the midway point. I assume we're talking about the same walk? We always simply refer to it as "The six day hike" (guess why...). It was so long ago now that I can't really remember much of the details from it (such as the fact that it went along Scotts Main Range LOL! However, I do have a couple of photos on my computer which I scanned several years ago....

Thats pretty cool that you have also done the same track. It is one of those trails which most people have never heard of, let alone actually done (as opposed to say the 6-foot track, which most outdoors people know by name)

Hey,
        This is a great idea.
I grew up in coffs harbour where I took up climbing, now being a uni bum up in brisbane and part of a uni club, so i've taken up all things outdoors. i'll try and get the it guy for our club to join you to our website. once I find out how to add guides I'll start uploading some ones I've been writing.

Great! Thanks so much guys. At this stage of the website, every individual who helps out makes a huge difference - the guide is at the precarious stage where there isn't enough information in it for it to be particularly useful, but we still need people to come so that more can be added to it. So I can't tell you how much I appreciate your willingness to give it a go.

I'm going to keep working on the Roadmap page. I will try to make that into a one stop "How to make the next page" information point.

I also want to improve the look of the various "{sport} is a dangerous Sport" templates, and add a "The environment around (Canyons, crags, caves etc) is a fragile environment, please observe the (canyoning, climbing, caving) code of ethics and help protect this precious environment" template.

I put up those 4 photos I had scanned from our walking of Scotts Main Range back in 1998 or 99 not sure which year now.

Not sure if you would take the bikes via Belloon pass, but when walking it, that is a bit of a highlight of the trip.

Hi everyone!

Just poking my head in for a quick hello. I'm not as hard core as many out there but I do enjoy a long bushwalk and have just returned to Sydney after campervaning 'round Aus for a year and a half... so I've seen alot of our beautiful country and I'm always keen to see more.  Grin Dale Gorge in Karijini NP WA was one of my favourites - There's nothing like a freshwater swim after a wander through paradise. Beware - the fish like to nibble toes!

Hello Everyone,

Love the site and the idea behind it.

I'm into rock climbing, bouldering, and general outdoorness.  Love doing long hikes in nice places.

Also into photography, which goes well with hiking etc, although lugging around camera gear makes packs heavy.

Good luck with the site

Thanks Marty. Feel free to post any of your photos around the place that you want to share. If you want, I will look into figuring out a way of enabling people to share their photos in the gallery (could be a challenge - I'm not really a programmer... but I'll try).

But in general, if you, or anyone else wants to publish your own trip reports, or photos or anything like that, then say so and I will see what I can do!

Hi All,
I found this site via an add on facebook - great idea to get some publicity!
I think what you're trying to do with the website is fantastic. I will help out where I can. I've done plenty of canyons in the Blue Mtns, including a couple in Kanagra Boyd National Park which haven't had much of a mention yet.
I've also done a bit of Scuba Diving around the traps. The Yongala wreck dive in North QLD is one of my favourites. I'll work out what I can do to contribute to the website, and provide what I can.
Cheers,
Phil

Great to hear Phil! Thanks a lot. Every bit of help is greatly appreciated at this point Smiley

There are a couple of pages linked to from the guide home page which give you a basic starting point for stuff that you can do. Another thing I am about to start working on (as soon as I finish writing up Claustral Canyon's guide) is an announcement telling everyone to add their own 'Outdoor Organisations' - So if you are a member of an outdoors club, or walking club, or even diving club, then please add a page for that club - describe the club, members, where they are, what activities they do, contact details etc. Basically free advertising direct to the community most likely to use them!

Hey Jeff,
Thanks for saying Hi. Another great person to have in the community Smiley

As president of your group, maybe we talk a bit and see how TDMSKP could help you out a bit, and how people in your cllub could use their knowledge of th Canberra area to help build that part of the guide?

The more people we have adding content to the guide, the better it is for everyone, especially outdoor clubs who are constantly dealing with new members, particularly overseas students. So for a start, definitely create a page in the guidebook section for the Canberra Outdoors Group, and use that page to advertise club trips, post links to trip reports, and recruit new members or whatever else you can think of.

Any who can then start helping to create new pages for Canyons, caving, cross country skiing, hiking etc around Canberra would be greatly appreciated! Plus you will then have your own useful resource for all new members.

Anyway, if you have any other ideas, or want to talk about anything, send me an email or PM.
