Hi everyone,

My name is Tim, I'm another one of those who for some time was thinking about a Wiki-guide, but just for canyoning.  Joined TDMSKP in Feb & very glad to have found so much hard work already done.  Grin

I grew up in a bushwalking family in Sydney's northern suburbs and frequently bushwalked, caved, liloed and mountain-biked through my school years. Lazily wasted most of my spare time through uni and didn't start canyoning until I left, about 6 or 7 years ago.

I'm 31 now and live the classic public servant life (in IT and IM). My flextime is typically (and usefully) spent elongating my weekends or it simply allows me to canyon mid-week.  Cool

My second home would have to be the high country in NSW and VIC. I have done many long hikes in the Snowy Mountains and love it down there. I expect to be down around Kosciuszko just after Easter.

Next year I plan to trek in Nepal and before that, hike in New Zealand. In the meantime, while at home, I will canyon like crazy and explore more of the Blue Mountains. Also on the cards is the 'alternative' Great North Walk - Newcastle to Sydney (well, Palm Beach anyway) along the coast - probably in August.

Anyway, immensely keen at the moment to improve my rope skills so sniffing around for some courses, reading books and keeping an ear open for good advice.  I must be the only person who carries a short length of rope with him to work, to practice knots on the train. Sometimes wish I'd been a boy scout!  Wink

You just missed out on a great weekend course we did through the OzCanyons group in 'Canyon Rope Technique' (a term which we made up at the time!). I learnt a great deal from it, and finally feel 'competent' with my rope skills for descending and self rescue.

Hi everyone,

Well done to the people who created this site. It is really cool to read and see photo's of other people's adventures who share the same interests. I was searching for info on other canyons other than around the Mt Wilson area and i stumbled across this website. Two hours later I thought I'd register.

I've been canyoning with the same group of friends for 3 years. We have done most canyons around Mt Wilson ie. wollangambe, serendipity, claustrals, whole in the wall, geronimo, waterfall of moss, whungee wheengee and oronga.

I have also trekked to Mt Everest base camp in winter and enjoy snowboarding and bush walking/camping.

Just wondering whether anyone knows of other areas of the Blue Mountains or NSW, besides the Mt Wilson area, that offer the same style of canyons as claustrels and whungee wheengee.

Cheers

There's Crikey canyon on the north branch of the Bungleboorie that you'd love if you're into Claustral and Whungee type of canyons. I'm doing an overnighter out there at the end of the month if you'd like to come check it out. I'll be doing Bubblebath canyon too while I'm there which is very short but spectacular.

Hi Icefall. Thanks for registering.

Do you own a copy of ]Rick Jamiesons canyons near sydney? That is what I (and most) people use to explore the more well known canyons around Sydney. It is pretty cheap and gets the job done.

Until our own community constructed guide here is filled out a little more by people, it is the only readily available guide that I know of. Otherwise you need to find people like Julz here who are willing to help you out and show you around Smiley The OzCanyons group is really useful for that (and hopefully our canyon board in this forum will be just as helpful in the near future too!)

http://www.Ozcanyons.org

For now, this page: Category:Canyons should indicate all of the completed guide articles we have for canyons in our guide. If you want to help add to any of them, or build up any of the stub canyon articles, feel free to do so Smiley It will help everyone out.

Hey Icefall

Not quite the same type, but I have a soft spot for the canyons out at Newnes - e.g. Pipeline, Newnes (Starlight), Nightmare, Devils Pinch, etc. Doing Coinslot in a month or so, which I haven't done before, and I'm told it's a cracker.

Re RJ's guidebook - I lent or lost my copy recently and I've been trudging around town a few times here in Sydney looking for a new one, with no luck.  I keep hearing it's out of print.  If anyone has seen it on sale recently in Sydney, please advise  Smiley
