I joined my club (NHVSS) on Monday for the last day of their 3 day caving trip at Cliefden Caves over the long weekend.
We decided to find Taplow Maze (CL5), and were relying on memories of two members from 15 years ago to find it. And they were only kids then! But find it they did!
Entry was down a tight hole in a paddock and easily down-climbed. Then a 4 or 5 metre pitch where we rigged a caving ladder for an awkward descent. This cave is indeed a maze, and if not for the map which was regularly consulted, we could still have been in there crawling around through the labyrinth of passages.
We explored a few interesting holes and side passages, and Rod even managed to completely slither out of his overalls trying to squeeze back up an extremely tight hole. Reminded me of a snake shedding it's skin.
We could have spent an entire day or two exploring, but time was short due to return travel commitments, so exited and vowed to return another day.
